How would you exactly measure 9 minutes using the above two hourglasses?

You have a gold bar as payment for an employee. This gold bar is the payment for 7 days of work for the employee. You have to pay the employee everyday. If you pay the entire gold bar then employee will take it and not show up for the remaining days. You are required to pay the employee at the end of the day.

You are allowed to split the bar into smaller pieces. It costs money to split the bar so lesser the number of splits the better it is for you.

How many pieces / slices you will make of the gold bar to make sure you can make the daily payments and also keep the employee for all 7 days.
